Germany

Lockheed Martin has been a strategic partner of the Bundeswehr and the German aerospace and defense industry for over 50 years.

Lockheed Martin advocates the development of an integrated transatlantic defense market and its cooperation with German industry demonstrates Lockheed Martin’s commitment to international partnerships.

Air Force Programs
In 2006, Germany purchased eight Lockheed Martin P-3 Orion Maritime Patrol Aircraft from The Netherlands, equipped with the latest Lockheed Martin CAP mission system. Lockheed Martin supports the German Navy in the operation of the aircraft, in cooperation with German industrial partners. The P-3 Orion is primarily used for maritime patrol, reconnaissance, anti-surface warfare and anti-submarine warfare.

Navy Programs
Lockheed Martin has been a major contractor for the German Navy for 30 years, supplying C4I systems on most of the Navy’s operational frigates. Lockheed Martin partners with German industrial partners such as ThyssenKrupp Maritime Systems and STN ATLAS Elektronik to upgrade German frigates, and with STN in developing a mine-hunting system for the U.S. Navy based on the SEAFOXsystem STN developed for the German Navy.

Missile Defense
Lockheed Martin is a key partner alongside German and Italian industry on the Medium Extended Air Defense System (MEADS). MEADS is a mobile air and missile defense system designed to replace Patriot systems in the United States and Germany, and Nike Hercules systems in Italy.

Lockheed Martin also partners with MBDA Germany on the combat-proven Patriot Advanced Capability (PAC-3) missile, which is being incorporated into the Patriot air defense system. The PAC-3 Missile was selected as the primary interceptor for the multi-national Medium Extended Air Defense System. Germany has received an initial set of PAC-3 missiles.

Air Defense and Radar
In the area of air defense, Lockheed Martin supplies collision avoidance systems, such as the FPS-117 three-dimensional air search radar, to German air traffic authorities. Eight Lockheed Martin RRP-117 dual use radars are also key to Germany’s air defense, supplied in cooperation with Siemens.

Lockheed Martin and EADS cooperate on Naval Radars for the U.S. Navy's Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). The LCS is equipped with the EADS TRS-3D radar for air and sea surveillance and weapons assignment. The U.S. Coast Guard's Maritime Security Cutter, Large (WMSL) will also be equipped with the EADS TRS-3D radar for air search. The companies have agreed to evaluate opportunities for joint development, marketing and production of the TRS-3D in other shipbuilding programs worldwide.

The government-to-government Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) program was a NATO cooperative program to provide standardized weapons for Germany and other allies. This has been one of the most successful transatlantic cooperative programs and is a model for others to follow. The MLRS program has stimulated the formation of several ongoing industrial partnerships. Lockheed Martin is a partner in the Euro-Art Radar Technology GmbH joint venture to produce the COBRA radar with EADS in Germany, Thales Air Defence of France and Thales Defence Ltd. of the UK.
